My Godmother, Mom Mattie! I am so thankful to have spent the day with you remembering the ole times we’ve shared. You’ve been with me forever, close at heart and far away, doing me. I will cherish the ole school remedies and the cooking skills that you and my grandmother (your best friend) taught me. You said to me “I am at peace and what gone be gone be”. You are at peace now and rejoicing with the Lord and Gerald. This is not goodbye as we will see each other again, on the other side.
Love,
Tootie
Mrs Morton was my neighbor, guardian angel and friend. Such a fine classy lady. I will always remember our occasional happy hours enjoying a Miller High Life and laughing about things on your front porch. I will miss you dearly Mattie. Rest in peace.
To My Dear Godmother,
I will always remember our trip to Mexico, the many weddings we attended together, shopping at Thalheimers, Miller & Rhoads and so much more. You have known my parents, Stanley and Elizabeth Waddy, for over 55 years and you watched their children (your godchildren) grow into adults and have families of our own. You celebrated with us through the years and loved our children as if they were your own.
Thank you for always taking my calls when I needed to know how to cook a dish. I have almost perfected all the dishes, and I will continue to cook and entertain in your honor. You made sure I knew quality in ALL things.
You remain a treasure who’s worth you cannot measure except by the love that was in your heart.
I will cherish the memories we had together.
I will miss you so much.
Until we meet again
Winona Waddy Coles
Dearest Mattie,
I hope you know just how much you are loved.
My heart is broken for Yvonne. She has just been told that she cannot leave the hospital to attend your service. Her grief is deep. Her love for you is beyond words. She will miss you mightily.
You seem to have made everyone around you a stronger person for having known you. I know that I am stronger for having known you. You did nothing to make me stronger other than just being you. Your love, kindness, compassion &
understanding made you strong. That’s what your gift was to me. I pray to God that I can pass that message on to others,
the way you have.
You will always be remembered by those who know and love you.
Ma Mattie you will truly be missed I know I was supposed to get over there to see you but I never made it and I’m so sorry for that but I will definitely see you on the other side I love you dearly and to you Yvonne I will always be here for you I’m only a phone call away I love you always ❤️❤️❤️❤️
TO:The Entire Family,
Ms Morton was my second Mom growing up. She was my across the hall neighbor, responsible for me landing my first job. I remember her famous fried chicken, and also making sure, Gerald cleanup their house and I had to clean up my house before she and my Mom got home from work.
I will really miss her, when I came back to Richmond, I made a point to reach out. Ms. Morton I will keep in my heart forever🙏💜❤

You were an angel in disguise, no one will ever convince me otherwise. A BEAUTIFUL woman inside and out who spent a lifetime giving your one of a kind unconditional love and care to so many people. Not a day will pass by that I won’t thank God to have been one of them.
Rest in Paradise Queen👑
I love you so much Mom Mattie💕
