Melissa Fay Kidd-Simpson
June 19, 1979 – October 22, 2022
Melissa Fay Kidd Simpson of Richmond, Virginia departed this life on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
She was born to her parents, Yvonne Smith and Norman Kidd on June 19, 1979. She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Kidd III; sister Brenda Ropeckie; father Norman Kidd Jr; and step-father Raleigh Smith.
As a young woman, she grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and obtained her nursing degree from Richmond Technical Center. From a very young age, we all knew Melissa would be a nurse because of her passion to care for others and her love of medicine. To support herself and her family she worked several years as a Cardiac nurse at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and closed out her career at Powhatan County Jail, where she was seriously injured and had to retire from professional nursing. Despite her illness, she still looked for ways to care for others. She was the caregiver for her father and step-father until they lost their battle with cancer and became guardians to her great nieces “Aryiana and Aaliyah” who affectionately called her “Mommy”. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading; loved to shop (Amazon was her best friend), sharing the benefits of using Sage to relax and purify with all she came in contact with; sampling different types of make-up; playing dress up with her great nieces Aryiana and Aaliyah, and spending time with her family. She will forever be remembered for her fun-loving personality and her love of people, especially her children and great-nieces.
Melissa is survived by her mother, Yvonne Smith; children, Cleaisha Kidd and Zion Simpson; four brothers and five sisters, Debra Ellke, William Kidd, Arlene S. Kidd, Lawrence Kidd, Raymond Kidd, Cynthia Thornton, Yvonne Freeman, Troy Kidd, and Sharon Williams; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and special friend Steven Simpson, who she loved to exhaust his wallet.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294. Private service will be held later for the family.
