Michael Patrick Finnegan
April 8, 1987 – Nov. 18, 2019
My son, Michael Patrick Finnegan, born April 8, 1987, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 18, 2019.
He is survived by his loving parents Maurice Frank Finnegan Jr., Christine Wells Finnegan; and his best friend and brother Maurice Frank Finnegan III. Michael courageously fought lifelong psychiatric and physical illness with grace and humility.
He loved his parents, brother, dog Joey, and birds Pumpkin and Edgar. Michael and his family are eternally grateful to his many health care professionals especially Sarah and Andy from Henrico Mental Health for their compassionate care. Michael will be remembered as a kind and loving son and brother who touched everyone he met.
In lieu of flowers, donations to support groups for mental illness and hidradenitis suppurativa would be appreciated.
My deepest condolences.

Chris and Family, I was devastated to hear of Michael’s passing. There is no loss like the loss of your child. Continuing to keep you in my heart and in my prayers.
Chris and family –
There are no words that can mend the brokenness in your hearts at the tragic loss of your sweet, sweet Michael. I can only hope that you eventually find peace and joy on the difficult path to your “new normal”. As unimaginable as it may seem, I know there will be happiness in your life again.
Michael was a young man who certainly knew what it was like to live with life’s struggles. With all that he battled, he still was kind and courteous to all those he met. He also knew his family loved and supported him through them all. He is free of those burdens now and it’s those left behind that now face the challenge. Cherish the memories, tell stories that make you laugh and cry, carry him in your heart because Michael will continue to be a part of your lives.
Please know that you have the support of friends that love and care for you.

My Dear Friend Chris and family,
My heart breaks at the news of Michael’s sudden passing. After sharing so many stories over post tennis coffee all these years, I know how deeply you love him and how hard you all worked to get him healthy. I believe he is now at everlasting peace that he struggled to find on earth. When the time comes you will see your beautiful boy again one day in heaven. Until that far off time:
May God bless you, guide you and comfort you during this sad time and forever and ever, Amen
Much love to you all…
Dearest Chris and Family,
My heart is aching for the loss of your beautiful son Michael, I know how much he was loved and what a deep loss this is for you. I feel like I came to know him through the years in our numerous conversations, and while he had many challenges, he endured them with quiet strength and dignity. You did so much to help him and he knew the love you had for him.
He’s now resting in God’s loving arms and glory, may you all feel God’s quiet strength and love as you go through this difficult time. You are in our prayers.
Cathy and Mark
Dear Chris and Family, My heart aches writing this. I remember all the times you talked of Michael, especially when he was in high school about how smart and accomplished he was. This is so hard. Dear Chris and family,
I can’t possibly express the sadness I feel for you and your family right now! I remember the conversations we had about him after tennis and having a son close to that age myself, I felt your emotions. I know you were an amazing mom to him and please know that he is not suffering any more— he is resting in Gods love. As smart as you described him, I know he would want you and your husband to find peace. You’re in my thoughts and prayers and please know that I’m here you.
Dear Chris and your entire family,
It is so difficult to find the words to express how sad I feel for you. I hope you will continue to lean on your friends on and off the court when you need help. As we said today, strong people know when they need help and really strong people seek the help they need. Your son was one of the really strong ones and you should be so proud.
We are here for you.
Geri

Dr. Finnegan and family,
I am saddened about your loss. I do not know about your beliefs but please read John 16: 19-. I hope and pray that you and your family find comfort in talking with friends and those who understand your loss. Michael looked like a beautiful young man. Although you say you struggled at work you were still able to exhibit compassion for your patients; and they will always remember that.
Fondly,
Martha Napier
Dear family, My beloved Godly friend and mentor, Judy Finnegan, spoke so lovingly of her grandsons. She loved her family, and prayed for them continually. I pray she is rejoicing in heaven with Michael now. Please accept our deepest sympathy for your great loss of your precious son and brother.
