Michel Zajur Sr.
October 1, 1925 – October 5, 2023
Michel Zajur, Papa, Papo, and to many Papa Zajur, age, 98, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Michel was a loving husband of 69 years to his beautiful wife Samira. He was an amazing, caring, loving, and generous father (Papa) to his six children, Lourdes Wellhouse (Leo), Amelia Harris(Bill), Michel Zajur (Lisa), Ruth Zajur, Andrea VanFossen (Tommy), and George Zajur. Papo to his 11 grandchildren, Justin Harris (Kelly), Miller VanFossen (Emily), Christopher Harris (Stefanie), Jessica V. Parham (Andrew), Taylor Harris (Crystal), PJ Wellhouse, Jada Parrish (David), Brittany Wellhouse, Ryan Fadool (Megan), Holly Zajur (Will), Austin Zajur. Papo to his 12 great-grandchildren, Riley, Harper, George, Norah, Jack, Wells, Sadie, Isabella, Reagan, Sofia PJ Jr., and Lawson.
Papa was preceded in death by his loving parents; his three brothers; and five sisters. He left behind a loving and adoring extended family throughout Richmond, the U.S., and Mexico.
Our Papa was a pillar of strength, a quiet and humble man. When he spoke, his words were full of wisdom, love, care, and encouragement. He welcomed all with genuine love, generosity, and loyalty. He and our mother, Samira, came to the United States 65 years ago from Zacatecas, Mexico. He was an entrepreneur at heart and opened a wonderful restaurant nearly five decades ago. This establishment, La Siesta, quickly became a cherished Richmond landmark, known for its exquisite Mexican cuisine and Michel’s special white sauce that was loved and enjoyed by many.
Papa passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and children. While we are heartbroken by our loss, we also celebrate with joy that he is now well and whole in the presence of Jesus. We find solace in knowing that the legacy he left behind is a testament to a life well lived and one that touched the hearts of many. He was a source of inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. with a time of sharing from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11 at Affinity Funeral Service, 2720 Enterprise Parkway, Richmond, VA 23294. A Catholic Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 12 at Saint Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, 4611 Sadler Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060. Interment will follow at Westhampton Memorial Park 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church or Hunter Classical Christian School. https://www.
