Nancy Joyce Caporale

September 2, 1942 – January 24, 2024

Nancy Joyce Garrison Caporale, 81, of Mechanicsville, VA passed away on January 24, 2024, in her home surrounded by several loved ones.

Nancy was born on September 2, 1942, in Washington DC.  She was a 1960 graduate of Anacostia High School and attended The American University in Washington D.C., studying the arts before relocating to Boston, MA. She was a member of Chi Alpha Sigma Sorority.  Nancy was an artist who loved creating pieces to share with others or hang in her home. Nancy adored her family, hosting or attending family gatherings, and cheering for the Washington Redskins. Annually, Nancy would go to the Outer Banks with “the girls.” In her free time, Nancy enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, growing her irises, and birdwatching on her back porch to see bluebirds, cardinals, and hummingbirds.

In addition to her hobbies and passions, Nancy was always a hard worker.  She worked from 1969 to 1972 as a PBX Operator with Sears, Roebuck, and Bechtel Engineering in Maryland.  Nancy was an Office Manager from 1972 to 1982 with Merit Services in Richmond, VA.  She worked at Ernst & Young from 1982 until 1996, retiring from the company as an Administrative Office Manager.  Even in her retirement, she started a business selling her canned goods as Grandma Caporale’s Speciality Foods (designated Virginia’s Finest).

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Tracey Williams (Glenn Williams); and her son, Johnny Caporale. She was a beloved grandmother to Ashlee Hepburn, Michael Murray Jr., Meghan Luzader (Jordan Luzader), Chelsea Caporale, Johnathan Caporale, and Kayla Williams; and great-grandmother, to Miles Hepburn and Cora Luzader. Nancy shared a deep bond with her sisters, Jackie Guyer, Patricia Brincefield (Peter Varsanyi), Judy B. Webb, and Catherine Brincefield (Geoffrey Bancroft). She will be remembered forever by many nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends, including Carolyn Jones.

She is preceded in death by her father, Clifford Garrison; mother, Pauline Winstead Brincefield; stepfather, James C. Brincefield; brother, Kenneth Garrison; and stepbrother, James “Beau” Brincefield Jr.
