Naomi Ruth Myers
May 15, 1925 – April 4, 2021
Naomi Ruth Myers died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at 2:20 AM after a short illness. She was born May 15, 1925 in Newton WV to Oliver Dwight and Eska Allen Jarvis. Naomi was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Harold Edward Myers; son, Eric Myers; sisters, Frankie Eddy, Dona Drake, Mary Calloway and Lucy Helmic.
Naomi made and kept close and dear friends from all walks of life wherever she was- her church, her arthritis swim class, her work and her dear neighbors at Lakewood.
She was known for her baking. Almost every week after she moved to Lakewood, she would prepare a homemade cake and place it in the parlor to share with her neighbors. She became known as “The Lakewood Cake Lady”. People who did not know her name, knew of “The Lakewood Cake Lady”.
She had a posse of close friends and neighbors with whom she ate dinner with most nights: Virginia Taylor, Fontaine Fox and Emily Ukrop. She was also close to her neighbor down the hall, Kitty Frostick, and Sally Redfern and Bruce Pfeiffer, both of “C” building.
Naomi worked until she was nearly 80 as a Medicaid claims analyst and trainer. She retired three times and was recruited back twice. Her positive “can do” attitude, “stick-to-it-iveness” and attention to detail, served her well in her professional life. Her frequent contribution of homemade birthday cakes did not hurt her career either.
Naomi’s love of hard work was nurtured on her family’s farm where she learned every person is important for the success and survival of the family and community. Naomi’s first paid job at 18 years old, an airplane riveter for WWII airplanes, must have given her confidence in her ability. She was proud of her contribution.
Naomi loved to look good. She dressed for company every day, wearing well-coordinated light colors and soft fabrics. She smiled easily and often. People were drawn to her and she loved them.
Naomi is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Myers; her brothers, Noble Jarvis, Oliver D. Jarvis, Jr. and Larry Jarvis (Ginny); and sisters, Floretta Nestor and Luberta Neil; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved her family deeply.
Please join us as we celebrate her well-lived life on Saturday May 15 (which would have been her 96th birthday) at 2 pm at Lakewood’s Simms Center, 1900 Lauderdale Dr., Henrico, VA 23238. There will be cake; Naomi would like for you to have something sweet.
Due to social distancing restrictions, seating will be limited. Please call Lakewood at 804/521-9252 to make a reservation if you plan to attend. Masks will be required.
I loved her so much

Naomi was like a second mother to me and will always be remembered that way. I miss her and she will always be close by in my thoughts.
