Patricia Anne Winship of Richmond Virginia passed away peacefully March 5th at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Winship and granddaughter Ashley Kesler.
She is survived by her brother Robert Winship (Laura) and children Debbie Kesler of Richmond VA, Scott Kesler (Tania) of Lexington S.C., Ronnie Kesler of Midlothian VA and Kirsten (Glen) Aker of Lexington N.C. She was the proud grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 4.
“Patty” was a graduate of Saint Catherine’s School. She received her undergraduate degree in history at Westhampton College (University of Richmond) and a master’s degree in special education from The University of Virginia. She dedicated her adult life to teaching, which she started by volunteering with special needs children at a church in Florence S.C. Her career continued as a middle school history teacher in Columbia South Carolina at Alcorn Middle School and then at Hammond Academy. After the family returned to Virginia, she earned her master’s degree in special education, working with special needs students in both Albemarle and Chesterfield counties. More than just her job, she poured her life and heart into her students changing the course of many of their lives for the better.
Mom loved her children, family and her students and was to us all, a great teacher of life, love and acceptance. We will miss you, but we will carry on, with you always in our fondest memories. Love you mom !!
Service will be Saturday, March 19th Visitation at 11:00 Memorial at 12:00 Grove Church 8701 Ridge Road, Richmond.
