Patricia Patterson Broaddus

August 17, 1936 – March 12, 2024

Patricia “Pat” Broaddus, 87, of Richmond, Virginia via Birmingham, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024.

She was the daughter of Iris Vaughan and Paul Patterson. Pat is survived by her children, daughter Kelley B. Broaddus, son Scott P. Broaddus and his wife, Cynthia Oliver Broaddus, and granddaughter Abigail Elizabeth Broaddus. So much could be said about our beloved Pat. She was known to both family and friends as one who gave her all with a sense of good humor, optimism, compassion, and loyalty. Pat had a truly wonderful way with words, both written and spoken, and she easily made lifelong friends.

She graduated with honors from Auburn University with a degree in journalism while minoring in French. Her career took her to Atlanta where she met her future husband of 52 years, Malcolm “Mac” Broaddus. Their special marriage took place in Birmingham, Alabama on June 12, 1960.

Starting in her 40’s Pat took work in Dr. Bill Webb’s dental practice for 17 years. There, more people became a part of her large circle of dear friends. She and Mac joined Bon Air United Methodist Church in the 1970s, and there, the wonderful people she came to know and spend time with also became a cherished, fulfilling part of her life, until she returned to be with the Lord.

Pat loved and was loved beyond measure. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at Bon Air United Methodist Church 1645 Buford Rd., Richmond, VA 23235. A family interment of ashes in the Church Memorial Garden will follow the service. Friends are also welcome to attend, and a reception in the Church Commons will commence afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pat’s honor may be made to the Richmond Animal League located at 11401 International Dr. Richmond, VA, 23236 or on their website at
