Richard Boehling Johnson, of Glen Allen, Virginia passed away on July 11, 2023, at the age of 75.
Richard was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 19, 1947 to Thomas O’Conner Johnson and Marie Dominica Boehling. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965. Richard briefly attended Virginia Commonwealth University before serving in the Air Force from 1969 to 1973. After the Air Force, he went on to have a 29-year career at Reynolds Metals/Alcoa as an Ultrasonic Engineer, during which time he earned his Associates Degree in Electronics from J. Sergeant Reynolds in 1984. Following retirement in 2002, but not ready to stop working completely, he worked part-time at Urkops for 1.5 years until 2005.
Richard is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Karen Meier (Stephen) and Christine Cooper (John); grandchildren Hannah, Noam, Preston, Bryce, Jeremiah, and Rebekah; sisters-in-law Deborah Vaughan Johnson and Virginia Corbell Johnson; nephews Stephen Johnson, Paul Hedrick, and David Johnson; and nieces Jenny Fisher and Katherine Upshaw. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jerry Vonderlehr Johnson and Thomas O’Connor Johnson.
Richard valued his family, community, work, and faith as member of Saint. Michael Catholic Church where he was involved in several ministries. He was also a regular donor at Virginia Blood Services.
The family is grateful for the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers who oversaw Richard’s care over the past 18 months. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by many.
The family will celebrate his life at Saint Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, July 27, 2023. There will be a visitation at 9:30am in the Day Chapel/Commons and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am in the Worship Space. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to either Virginia Blood Services or Saint Michael Catholic Church.
