Robelito “Bob” Jose Taguding

August 16, 1952 – May 13, 2024

Robelito “Bob” Jose Taguding, 71, died of natural causes in his sleep on May 13, 2024 in Richmond, Virginia.

Bob was the son of Bonifacio Taguding and Rufina Taguding, he was born in Davao, Philippines. Due to his father’s career in the Air Force, his family moved throughout the U.S. before eventually settling in the Northern Virginia/Maryland area, where Bob spent the majority of his life. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland and worked primarily in the finance sector in various roles, ending his career as a comptroller in McLean, VA.

A faithful member of his church from a young age, he regularly used his singing and guitar playing talents to serve on the worship team and in Sunday School. As a young adult, alongside his siblings, Bob led the movement to bring contemporary Christian music into the Catholic mass on Andrews Air Force Base. The popularity of this new way of worship on the base quickly outgrew the original venue. Music and theatre were ever-present in Bob’s life — starring in a production of Godspell, forming a musical quartet, The End Result, and singing five-part harmony with his family were just a few of his favorite memories to share.

Though you would typically find him dressed in blues, Bob always aimed to lift the spirits of his friends and those closest to him. He had a natural inclination to look out for those around him and had a compassionate heart. He was a devoted member of Liberty Church in Newport News, and volunteered at the local food bank. Bob had a witty sense of humor and the family is fairly certain that all “dad jokes” originated with him. He loved to make people laugh, especially his grandkids, to whom he was affectionately known as “Coco Pop”.

Bob is survived by his three children, Amy, Julie, and Jeremy; their mother, Lezlie; three grandchildren Kenley, Holden, and Hayden; along with seven brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Bonifacio; his mother, Rufina; and brother Art.
