It is very tristful news indeed to learn of our great inspirational Chemistry Guru – Teacher Shree Shantilal R Patel ascending to his heavenly abode. He was a staunch cricketer.
I was also privately tutored by him in Chemistry which set me up for life. I used to go to his house for private lessons.
He trusted me so much that when he went to India, he had asked me to care for Chandra bhabhi ji and I used to go to their house at night to sleep to give them security and safety. There used to be another young Patel girl who also came to support Bhsbhi ji. Their son was a young boy then in 1969.
I had the utmost joy of meeting Shankill Sir at the Jinja Reunion in London. After that reunion we exchanged emails and reminisced about joyful times in Jinja.
May Shankill R Patel Sir have Sadgati and our sincerest condolences to Chandra Bhabh ji and family
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

My sincere condolences on the sad news of the loss of Shantilal Sir. Prayers for his soul to be at peace and may the family and friends have the requisite strength and courage to cope at this difficult time with the loss of their loved one. I have many fond memories of Sir who taught me Chemistry at Jinja Senior Secondary School. I and am sure all his former students would thank him for instilling the educational values during those early school days which have stood many of his students in good stead in future years. To all his students he was a teacher in school class room but a friend outside school . Indeed a wonderful human being who enjoyed his profession, his cricket and above all loved by his family and friends. He will be missed but many wonderful memories to cherish hereon.

Shantilal sir was the best chemistry teacher in Jinja Senior Secondary School and he was my class master in class 3 who helped me achieve my true academic potential. He was originally from my father’s town in India (Sojitra) and we knew the family well through their saree shop. A genuinely nice man who even teenagers appreciated. I am certain that he would have helped his family greatly and sadly our deportation from Uganda separated us all and never got a chance to meet Sir in person again. May god bless his soul.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. Condolences to the family and the many students he taught Chemistry. An excellent teacher and inspired the search for knowledge.

Jai Shree Krishna
I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Shantilal.
He was an exceptional science and maths teacher as well as a gifted sportman, always sharply dressed donning his signature pencil moustache and willing to go the extra mile for his pupils.
With his guidance and support, many of his students have succeeded in their respective fields – including my brother, Dr Babu M Upadhyay.
I had the pleasure of seeing Sir Shantilal at the Jinja Reunion in London some years ago. If only I knew that was the last time I would see him, but I am grateful to have had the opportunity to spend some time with my dear teacher.
He was the personification of a guru who will be deeply missed by many all over the world.
Sincerest condolences to the Patel family, who should not hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do to assist during this difficult time.
