Stephen Richard Fishwick Sr. of Doswell, VA passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by his wife and family when he died of natural causes.
Steve was born to Paul and Louise (Hurley) Fishwick on August 14, 1943. He was the second oldest of four boys and was raised in a proudly Irish Catholic family in northeast Ohio. He attended both St. Joseph’s High School and Willoughby South High, graduating from the latter in 1963. Later that same year, as soon as he was able, he joined the Army. He was stationed in Denver CO and served honorably until his discharge in 1965.
He married his wife, Kate (Moore) in May of 1966 and was blessed with three boys. They raised their family on a small plot of farmland just outside of Jefferson, OH. He made a career in the oil and gas industry working as a petroleum land manager, often traveling between Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. When the boys grew up and ventured off, he and Kate relocated to Virginia to stay close to family. There he eagerly embraced his favorite role–Grandpa. He became the world’s greatest “Papa” to five delightful grandchildren.
Steve’s unwavering dedication to his family had no limit. He greatly enjoyed golfing with his sons and brothers in the Summer and hunting goose and deer in the Winter. He loved a good game of scrabble, a hot cup of coffee, and casual conversation with his friends. He was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police (the FOPA) and avidly supported law enforcement and the military. He believed in Jesus and was always a man of faith.
Stephen was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Robert Fishwick. He is survived by his brother Dan; his wife, Kate; his sons, Paul (Anna); grandchildren, Molly and Mary, Stephen Jr. (Jodi); grandchildren, Aidan, Elle, and Rylan; and his youngest son, Edward.
A memorial service will be held locally on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:00 a0m. at Little River Baptist Church in Bumpass VA, and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held in Willoughby, OH early this Summer. Steve was beloved by more people than could possibly be mentioned here and will be missed beyond belief.
