Obituary message
GILLIAM, Sybie Dunn, 83, of Richmond went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. She was born in Wilson, NC. Sybie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Dunn and Lillie Mae Jones; one brother, Jack Dunn; and her loving husband of 59 years, Theron I. (Gil) Gilliam. Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Tig Gilliam (Janice), Frank Gilliam (Ellen) and Julie Flippen (Lee); and her grandchildren, Graham, Paige, Alexander, Anna, Christopher, Amanda and Edward. Sybie devoted her life to serving family and friends, Bible Study and Children’s Ministry. Following her graduation from High School in Wilson, NC. in 1953, Sybie went to work to help support her parents. Her job at First and Merchants Bank brought her to Richmond where she met her future husband. She quickly turned her attention and passion to being a loving homemaker for Gil and their three children. In 1973, she co-founded the Derbyshire Baptist Church’s “Mom’s Free Morning” program. Sybie also served in Community Bible Study as a children’s teacher for more than 12 years. More than anything, she served her family and friends faithfully. Her life will be celebrated at Gayton Baptist Church on Saturday, January 12 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gayton Baptist Church, 13501 North Gayton Road, Richmond, VA 23233-7057.
Sybie was my daughter’s “pink sheep teacher” at CBS, truly a sweet and strong influence on both of us??
A lovely, loving, caring and sharing family and community member who touched many lives. She and her husband raised children who are responsible parents contributing to society. She will be remembered and missed by the family she loved, friends who she enjoyed, and many others she helped to nurture.
