Voncile Wingate Baughman
Jan. 3, 1926 – Mar. 30, 2020
BAUGHMAN, Voncile Wingate, 94, of Richmond transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, March 30, 2020 at the Masonic Home of Virginia. She was the wife of late Emilius A. “Neal” Baughman. She was predeceased by her parents, Vassar and Cynthia Wingate and her sister, Gloria McCrain.
Voncile was a lifelong member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church and a former employee of the State Health Department.
She is survived by her two children, Allen Baughman (Debbie) and Mary Beth Lambert (Rob); five grandchildren, Whitney Altizer (Brooks), Caitlin Raines (Fred), Erika Brechtelsbauer (Erich), Caroline Lambert and Drew Lambert; and two great-grandsons, Asa and Zeke Altizer.
Voncile was a fiercely independent woman. In true “Wingate fashion”, she was of strong moral character and work ethic. She loved her children and instilled honesty and accountability. Mom will be remembered for her gardening, canning, potato salad, fruit cakes and Southern cooking. In her youth, she loved jitterbugging with the Albany fly boys. In retirement years, she square danced with Neal, volunteered at Retreat Hospital, and ate lots of ice cream. The family of this “Georgia Peach” would like to thank the staff and caregivers of the Memory Support and Magnolia Court units for their love and support.
A private graveside service was held at Washington Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Thanks Affinity!
It was a great pleasure being able to get to know such a wonderful person. Helping to care for her over the last few years and hear her talk about Georgia and the wonderful memories she had was truly a gift. She will be greatly missed on the REB unit. I wish your Family well during this difficult time.
With fondest memories,
Vickie Martin LPN
Vickie,
Thank you for all the wonderful care you provided to my Grandma! We appreciate you so much. We sure will miss her!
Mary Beth and family. So sorry for your loss. May God be with each of you in the months ahead without her.
She was a sweet and dear Friend. She will was loved by so many. Love and prayers to Mary Beth and Al. Peggie Rosen.
I am so sorry for your loss. Voncile had such a wonderful personality. I did her hair at the Masonic Home and I can remember her walking down the hall singing as she was coming to the beauty salon to get her hair done. I was always happy to see her come. I will miss her.
Mary Beth and Allen, Your mother was one of the sweetest women on this earth! I came to know her through Jack and Herman’s friendship at American Tobacco Co. We would vacation together on the Outer Banks years ago…I remember how proud she was of her children. We played a trick on your Dad one day as he sat dozing in the cottage, book in hand, turning it upside down…then waiting for Jack to wake up. When he did, he looked at the book for a good while before he realized it was upside down and your Mom and I got so tickled. Good, happy memories. We know you have many and we thank God for her life of service making people feel valued. We will meet again one day in Heaven.
Mary Beth, Allan, Rob and Family. Such a great loss! Gloria and I always enjoyed our visits with the family. Especially at Christmas when we all gathered at Allen’s home. I remember fondly, the trips that Voncile, Gloria and I were able to take together. I miss the family after all these years since Gloria died in 2011. I rejoice in the belief that the two sisters and their Dad and Mother are now together in Heaven!
Love, James McCrain
