Celebrating the life of Lenard E. Shields
Thank you for signing Lenard E. Shields's Guestbook
Lenard was a man who could weave magic. He touched many, as was his way. He felt deeply and cared deeply, and knew how to spread joy and laughter. May he always be remembered as the loving soul he was!

I was a frequent customer of Lenard's over the past 15 years. My daughter, now 18, would come with me and he would place polished stones in her hands and she would play happily, taking them home, many still in a collection on her windowsill. I hadn't been by Richey's in a few years, but just Friday I was drawn to the store, only to find it empty. May Lenard rest in peace, and his family be comforted by knowing how many anonymous people like us he gently and kindly touched and created sweet memories for.

Lenard and Catherine, thanks for looking out for me when I was at my worst and really had no plans of surviving. I miss stopping by your shoe store on the way home from Reynolds. I heard about your passing from my uncle. Sorry the services will be private. I really wanted to go.

Lenard always had a way of showing up in my life, from being a neighbor on Crutchfield Street when my family moved back to Richmond in 1960, to being a demanding upper classman in the cadet corps during my recruit year at George Wythe, to running into him at VCU and joining him in a late night tour of downtown alleys looking for treasures, to meeting him at numerous antique shows around the area over the years. He even crashed my class reunion last year. He always brought a smile to me, wherever I happened to see him. He will be missed. Art Ritter

There was a time in my life when that crazy Lenard was a great friend to me. He took me on an adventure across the country for 28 days of unforgettable experiences. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace my friend.
